  • Kylian Mbappe recently sent a letter to PSG stating he would not extend his contract
  • The PSG forward contract is due to expire next summer
  • PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has sent a strong warning to the forward amidst his indecision

Kylian Mbappe has been reportedly warned by PSG that they may be forced to offload key players if he tries to move to Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer.

Mbappe sent a letter to PSG last month stating he had no intention of extending his contract, which expires in 2024, meaning he could leave for free next summer - a situation club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi is desperate to avoid.

PSG CEO Nasser Al Khelaifi says the club will not let Kylian Mbappe leave for free next summer, insisting the forward must sign a new contract this window if he wants to stay.

According to reports from Goal, PSG have set a deadline of July 31 for Mbappe to commit to staying until at least the summer of 2025. If he declines to do so, the club want to sell him in the upcoming transfer window.

Sky Sports reports PSG acknowledge that they cannot compel Mbappe to sign an extension or force him to leave against his wishes this summer.

However, they are adamant about avoiding the scenario of losing their star striker on a free transfer next year due to the huge financial repercussions a potential departure without a transfer fee would be substantial for the club.

Al-Khelaifi on Mbappe’s transfer

Speaking to the press after unveiling Luis Enrique as the new coach of the French Champions, Al-Khelaifi stated as quoted by Sky Sports:

"My position is very clear. I don't want to repeat it every time: if Kylian wants to stay, we want him to stay. But he needs to sign a new contract,"
"We don't want to lose the best player in the world for free. We can't do that. This is a French club.
"He said he would never leave for free. If he changes his mind today, it's not my fault. We don't want to lose the best player in the world for free, that's very clear."

At PSG, there is a prevailing sentiment that Mbappe's conduct is causing a stagnation within the club, leading to a frank statement being made "If you want to go, go now".

PSG is open to the possibility of transferring Mbappe to Real Madrid in the upcoming summer, provided he agrees to remain with the club until 2025.

This arrangement is perceived as mutually beneficial, with PSG receiving a substantial transfer fee, Real Madrid acquiring the services of the world's finest player, and Mbappe fulfilling his long-awaited desire to join his dream club.

Mbappe beats Vinicius to award

Sports Brief previously reported Paris Saint-Germain and France forward, Mbappe, pipped Vinicius Jr and Lionel Messi to become ESPN’s Player of the Year.

Mbappe saw off competition from his former teammate and the Brazilian to claim the coveted award.

The ESPN award covers the period from the beginning to the end of the 2022/23 football season, including the 2022 FIFA World Cup, which saw Messi end Argentina's 36-year wait for global glory.
