Marco Asensio has opened up on why he chose to join Paris Saint-Germain, despite having numerous suitors following his departure from Real Madrid.
After 17 titles and some wonderful goals, the Spaniard has finally ended his seven-year stint with Los Blancos, which started as a teenager in the summer of 2016.
According to Sportskeeda, Asensio - who was on the radar of Manchester United, Arsenal, and Barcelona, has now revealed that he joined PSG because he felt it was the perfect club for him.
“Paris is a big club, with a big project, an attractive and ambitious project. And then it corresponds to what I needed: a change of environment but still with an ambitious project. It's what I wanted and I think it's the perfect place for me to play, to have fun and to win a lot of titles."
Asensio won 17 major trophies with Real Madrid, including three UEFA Champions League titles, three La Liga titles, and four FIFA Club World Cups.
Asensio pens 3-year PSG deal
Paris Saint-Germain has confirmed the signing of Asensio after he became a free agent following his departure from Real Madrid, Football Espana reports.
The 27-year-old forward turned down the opportunity to extend his contract with the 14-time Champions League winners after seeing his place as a starter diminish last season.
Asensio will reunite with former Spain national coach, Luis Enrique, who was also confirmed as the new PSG manager following the sacking of Christophe Galtier.
Potential summer destinations for Asensio
Earlier, Sports Brief reported on possible club destinations for Asensio after he brought the curtain down on a widely successful period with Real Madrid.
He won three Champions League crowns in the Spanish capital, in addition to three La Liga titles, but life with the team has not been all plain sailing either.
The young Mallorcan had struggled to command a regular place in the side and was also sidelined for most of the 2019/20 season after a tear to his ACL.
