Mason Mount has opened up on his decision to dump Chelsea to seal a sensational summer move to Manchester United.

The England international officially joined the Red Devils on Wednesday, July 5, ending days weeks of speculation that surrounded his Stamford Bridge future.

Mount's move to Old Trafford came just hours after he posted an emotional video on Instagram announcing he will be quitting Chelsea this summer.

"Hi Chelsea fans, given the speculation over the last six months, this may not come as a surprise to you, but it doesn't make it any easier to tell you that I've made the decision to leave Chelsea," he said.

According to The Mirror, United paid a fee in the region of £60million to land the services of the 24-year-old, allowing him to join a growing list of players to have played for the two EPL clubs.

Mount's decision to swap Chelsea for Man United came as a surprise to many, with the midfielder regarded as a blue through and through.

Why Mason Mount joined Man United

However, the Englishman has since come out to explain his decision to sign for Chelsea's direct Premier League rivals.

According to the England international, he felt that this was "right time" for him to leave Stamford Bridge.

Speaking in a separate interview after his move was made official, the new United signing added that he moved to the Theatre of Dreams to win more silverware.

"It's never easy leaving the club where you grew up, but Manchester United will provide an exciting new challenge for the next phase of my career. Having competed against them, I know just how strong a squad it is that I'm joining, and I can't wait to be part of this group’s drive to win major trophies," he disclosed.

Chelsea pride in Reece James

Sports Brief reported that Chelsea took pride in Reece James after the defender responded to a fan teasing a move to Arsenal for him.

The club’s Twitter was quick to brand him ‘One of our own’, aiming a dig at Arsenal and at Mount, an academy star joining a rival club, Manchester United.
