Fabregas lifted the World Cup and two European Championships (2008, 2012) with Spain. He played 110 times for his country between 2006 and 2016.

The midfielder and Van Persie joined Arsenal around the same time in the early 2000s but left a few years later after a lack of success under Arsene Wenger.

Both players went on to achieve great success in their next stops.

He was part of the Barcelona team that tore Europe apart, while Van Persie delivered Sir Alex Ferguson his last Premier League title in 2013. His former teammate, Lionel Messi also paid Fabregas tribute per Sports Brief.

Sports Brief earlier reported on Fabregas revealing an interesting story about his former Barcelona teammate, Messi, who 'made him look like a fool' in training once.

The two veterans were teammates at La Blaugrana's renowned La Masia Academy and later played together for three seasons when Fabregas returned to the Catalans.
