The Bafana legend shared his thoughts after Banyana boycotted their send-off fixture before the FIFA Women’s World Cup over safety concerns.
SAFA then replaced the side with a makeshift team, but were beaten 5-0 by Botswana, The Citizen reported.
Reflecting on the standoff between the two parties, Khumalo shared his disappointment with what transpired, iDiski Times reported.
“Let’s tell the truth about our football, this is not the true reflection of what we are supposed to be seeing as South Africans, and unfortunately, it is out there,” he first said.
Khumalo also questioned why the makeshift side played the game, when they should have shown solidarity.
“Why are you going to play when people are fighting? This is a disgrace,” he continued.
16V also described how disheartening it was to see South African football get to this stage, when he previously did so much for the country.
“What I’m looking at is a shame and disgrace because I did so much to make this flag to be recognised in the world, and people come and do this?”
