Former Black Stars captain, Stephen Appiah has revealed that ex-Black Starlets coach, Sam Arday, predicted accurately how successful he will be with the Ghana national team.

Appiah enjoyed a stellar career with the Black Stars, becoming the first captain to lead the four-time African champions to the World Cup.

The former Juventus midfielder, was handed his first taste on international football at the U17 level by the late coach Arday.

The former Ghana coach after watching Appiah play for the youth team believed he will end up becoming one of the best from the West African nation.

"We won the trophy we came back, and when we came back, we took the trophy on a tour. When we got to the Accra sports stadium, there were a lot of fans to welcome us," Appiah told Joy Sports.
“When Sam Arday was giving his speech, he said that he was thanking the fans and the players and everybody who supported them to win, but one thing [he added was that] there’s a young player in our team who didn’t get the chance to play but one day he will be one of the best in this country and it happened.
He added that; “he [Arday] knew the quality I had. Sam Arday was a great man. He was one of those coaches who could look at a player and predict that he will be good in the future and most of the time, it happens.”

Appiah went on the secure a move to Italy, where he joined Udinese before playing for Juventus and Fenerbache later in his career.

He was part of Ghana's team at the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cup.

Coach Arday passed away in February 2017 at the age of 71, as reported by Ghanafa.org.

Appiah opens up on Ghana sacrifices

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Legendary Ghanaian midfielder, Stephen Appiah has disclosed the personal sacrifices he made to improve the image of the Black Stars.

According to the former Ghana captain, there was a time when nobody wanted to play for the national team.

However, as leader of the team, he has revealed the lengths he pursued to ensure players would even honour invites to the Black Stars.
