  • Nigerian star Wilfred Ndidi and his teammates at Leicester City were relegated last season from the EPL
  • There are reports that Celtic and Napoli are interested in the services of the Super Eagles' midfielder
  • The relegation of Ndidi has also affected his transfer market value

Wilfred Ndidi's market transfer value has nosedived from €60m to €25m in just one year following the relegation of Leicester City from the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Last year, Ndidi was rated as the most valuable Nigerian player even ahead of Napoli striker Victor Osimhen who is now fourth in the world following his impressive performances for the Serie A champions.

Osimhen finished last season as the highest goalscorer with 26 goals and also became the first African to win the Golden Boot in the history of Serie A.

According to the report in Guardian and a post on Twitter, Ndidi suffered a drop in his transfer market value on four consecutive occasions in September and November 2022 as well as March and June 2023.

How did Ndidi crumble?

Injuries, a dip in form, and Leicester’s poor season could be attributed to how the cookies crumbled for the Super Eagles midfielder.

Sports Brief spoke with Paris-based sports reporter Babatunde Ojora who expressed unhappiness about Ndidi's form last season at Leicester City.

''We all expected more from him last season, and it's sad that his market value has dropped as we await where he will play in the coming season.''

Galatasaray Eyes move for Ndidi

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Super Lig champions Galatasaray are reportedly interested in signing Nigerian midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi following the relegation of his club Leicester City from the Premier League last season.

Ndidi is one of the biggest Nigerian players. He played an important role in helping Leicester City win the FA Cup in 2021 under Brendan Rodgers.

Since the Foxes were relegated, there have been concerns over the future of Ndidi, with some reports also linking him with a move to Serie A champions Napoli.

Speculation has it that those in charge of Napoli want to reunite Ndidi with Victor Osimhen.
