Mali winger Moussa Djenepo caught the attention of his Southampton teammates when he arrived for the first day of pre-season clad in stunning West African attire.

The forward is wasting no time as he joined preparations ahead of the 2023/24 season as the Saints eye a quick return to the English Premier League.

Djenepo and his teammates met new coach Russel Martin, who sent the players through various drills as they worked on their fitness.

In a photo shared on social media, Djenepo was spotted walking gallantly to training in his yellow three-piece kaftan popularly known in Africa as Abada.

The Southampton winger appeared to have arrived from the Eid-ul-Adha prayers since he is a Muslim and was dressed for the occasion.

Southampton will engage Reading FC and AFC Bournemouth in pre-season friendlies as preparations continue for the 2023/24 season, reported Southamptonfc.com.

The Saints were relegated from the Premier League last season after finishing bottom of the table following a tough campaign.

The Reds will be hoping to make a quick return to the English topflight.

Southampton defender Salisu enjoys holidays

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Black Stars defender, Mohammed Salisu is enjoying the holidays with his girlfriend in Greece after the end of a long season in England.

Salisu missed most of the second half of the season after picking an injury as Southampton suffered a Premier League demotion at the end of the campaign.

The towering centre-back last played for the Saints in a game against Tottenham Hotspur in March and has not featured since for both club and country.

Ghanaian defender, Mohammed Salisu has sent a message of encouragement to fans of Southampton after their 11-year stay in the English Premier League came to a disappointing end.

The Saints were relegated after a 2-0 defeat to Fulham last week. Salisu missed the game due to injury and has not featured for the club since March, following his return from international duty with a knock.

The Ghanaian said the disappointment and sadness the team was feeling was immeasurable.
