NHLArsenal Great Sol Campbell Makes ‘Strange’ Usain Bolt Comparison, Gets Roasted by EPL Legends
- Arsenal great Sol Campbell has compared himself with Usain Bolt
- The retired English defender touted his sprinting credentials
- He spent 20 years playing in the Premier League, representing Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Portsmouth
Sol Campbell, the renowned Arsenal legend, has faced mockery from several Premier League icons following his bizarre claim comparing himself to sprint legend Usain Bolt.
Taking to Instagram, Campbell attempted to emphasize his own speed capabilities by sharing an Infographic that highlighted the fastest players in the Premier League during the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons.
At that time, the 34-year-old Campbell ranked just behind Theo Walcott with a recorded speed of 22.5mph.
The former English footballer, who has ventured into coaching and punditry after retiring from his playing career, drew a comparison between himself and the legendary eight-time Olympic gold medalist, Usain Bolt.
"Bolt hit a top speed of 24.04mp You have to remember I did this speed when I was 34 YEARS OLD. Imagine the pace I could generate at the age of 23, my friends facts and figures," he wrote as quoted by Mirror.
Since making those comments, Sol Campbell's remarks have sparked a flurry of reactions, with many of his former teammates taking the opportunity to mock him.
How EPL legends reacted?
Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand wrote:
"Sol, I’m sorry to kill your vibe, but Cesc [Fabregas] being on this list makes this bit of data null & void. Cesc's game was brain, passing and angles, not speed - and Cesc would tell u that."
Meanwhile, ex-Everton defender Sylvan Distin raised eyebrows about the authenticity of the stats, questioning Campbell's pace:
"Cesc as fast as Anelka ?????? Really ?????"
Multiple Premier League winner Andy Cole asked his English compatriot to pipe down:
Yaya Toure's curse: What is it, the story behind it and is it true?
Football"Easy Sol man."
Former Inter Miami coach Phil Neville, who played for Man United and Everton, poked fun at Campbell, teasing him for gifting the Red Devils a penalty to end Arsenal's 49-game unbeaten run:
"Still give us a penalty at Old Trafford tho, Sol [Campbell]."
American sprinter equals Bolt's record
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Noah Lyles has matched an impressive record that was held by none other than legendary Jamaican runner, Usain Bolt.
The American sprinter equalled Bolt's mark for the most 200-metre contests with times of less than 20 seconds.
The 25-year-old was able to run a time of 19.83 seconds at the NYC Grand Prix at Randall Island’s Icahn Stadium on Saturday.
