Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has reportedly handed the club a four-man shortlist of players he wants to be signed this summer as Mason Mount's alternative.
United are expected to back the Dutchman in the transfer window as he bids to strengthen the squad in preparation for next season.
The Red Devils had widely been linked with a move for Chelsea ace Mount but were unsuccessful in their third bid for the midfielder.
According to The Mirror, United's latest offer for the England international was £55million.
However, the Blues are said to be holding out for £65m leaving United with no choice but to abandon their pursuit of the midfielder.

FootballReports now claim that Ten Hag has drawn up a four-player shortlist as alternatives to signing Mount.
As detailed by the Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag and United have identified four other alternatives in the position should they not be able to land Mount this summer.
The publication claims the Red Devils boss has already held video calls with players whom he wants to sign.
Be that as it may, Mount is understood to be the Old Trafford dwellers' top transfer priority.
The Chelsea ace has only a year left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge and is desperate to seal a move elsewhere this summer.
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano provided an update on the Mount situation, revealing that Chelsea were willing to meet with United’s representatives next week in order to find a solution to the Mount situation.
Man Utd could pull out of Kane's alternative deal due to asking price
FootballPart of the reason Chelsea are still holding out hope that United will budge in their pursuit of acquiring the midfielder is because Mount reportedly wants to move to Old Trafford, and is not committed to the Blues.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side also risk losing the player for much cheaper, and possibly for free , if they fail to seal a deal before the close of the summer transfer window.
