  • Manchester United have cooled their interest in England striker Harry Kane
  • There is a sense that Tottenham are unwilling to sell their all-time top scorer
  • The Red Devils have turned their attention to Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund

Manchester United could yet again fail in their pursuit of the striker believed to be Harry Kane’s alternative as their options narrow down.

United ended their interest in Kane after they perceived the unwillingness of Tottenham to sell their top scorer, which has made the desk drag till this point.

The 29-year-old has a year left on his contract, and Spurs risk losing him for free next summer. Still, they are playing hardball over his move and demanding in excess of £100m.

According to The Telegraph, Daniel Levy rejected a £125m offer from Manchester City for the England captain two years ago, and the Citizens instead went for Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.

Hojlund’s fee complicates United move

After pulling out of the race for their priority target, the Red Devils turned their attention to Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund.

However, the move for the 20-year-old could also be in jeopardy with the Bergamo-based club demanding an outrageous £86m for the Danish striker, as reported by Metro UK.

The club have targets in other key positions as they look to bolster their squad for the Champions League campaign next season and are unwilling to sanction such a fee for one position and for a player who they believe a price less than £60m should be enough to secure his services.

United have been cautious in their approach to players, with the club’s sale process still underway - they had an opening bid of £40m rejected by Chelsea for English midfielder Mason Mount, whom they valued at £85m.

Five alternatives to Harry Kane

Sports Brief reported that United have five alternative striker options after pulling out of the deal for Tottenham’s all-time top scorer.

Hojlund tops the list, and the reports that he appears too expensive for the Reds is bad news for others with higher valuations.

Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani and Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos will cost upwards of £100m.
