FootballBurnley Wins the Internet with Hilarious Scream-Themed Announcement of New Signing
- Newly-promoted Burnley recently won the internet with a movie-themed transfer unveiling
- The Clarets, managed by Vincent Kompany, resorted to a unique way to announce the arrival of Dara O'Shea
- The club paid £7m for the Republic of Ireland defender
With the rise of social media platforms such as Tiktok and Instagram reels, football clubs have resorted to using them to boost their fan base, and Burnley is no different.
Part of the strategy to retain and perhaps accrue more fans is to be a little creative and entertaining, and this is exactly what the Clarets did with their latest signing.
On Friday, June 23, Burnley took social media by storm with their announcement of Dara O’Shea, a player they signed from West Brom for £7m.
It seems Burnley boss Vincent Kompany is already preparing for life in the grueling Premier League as they brought in the Dublin-born defender to bolster their defensive options.
And as a way of keeping their fans hyped about the signing, Burnley decided to announce his arrival using a scene from the iconic movie ‘Scream’, which first hit theatres in the year 2000.
The inspiration behind the announcement was derived from the memorable ‘Wazzap’ scene which involves the character Dookie, played by Marlon Wayans, asks what O’Shea is doing.
The defender then picks up the phone and hilariously declares , "Just chillin'. I'm signing for Burnley."
Fans who got a glimpse of the video could not help but heap praise on the club’s social media team, who are clearly going out of their way to stand out with their transfer announcments.
O’Shea has reportedly signed a four-year deal with the club.
Speaking on the Republic of Ireland international’s arrival, Vincent Kompany, a retired defender, said as per SportBible:
"It’s great to welcome Dara to Burnley and we know he can play a big part in the progression of our football club. Strong at the back as well as confident moving forward, a leader with experience and knowledge of playing at the highest level.”
