  • One of the most prestigious feats a footballer can have is being a Guinness World Records holder
  • Whilst some obvious names make the list, there are some other pretty much-unexpected entrants
  • Sports Brief looks at the most unusual record-holders including retired USA goalkeeper Tim Howard

When you think of football and the Guinness Book of World Records, one typically tends to angle towards most goals, assists, and perhaps accolades that can land a player in such a prestigious book.

Cristiano Ronaldo recently became the latest player to rattle the record books once again as he received a Guinness World Records certificate for making his 200th appearance for Portugal.

Lionel Messi also holds several Guinness World Records in football, including an almost unbeatable one of having the most man-of-the-match awards in FIFA World Cup history with 11.

Sports Brief now takes a look at some other football names who hold unique records, as per 90Min.

1. Dele Alli

Most nutmegs in 30 seconds

Despite his career taking a nosedive, former Tottenham Hotspur star, Dele Alli, is the proud owner of the record for most nutmegs in a mere 30 seconds.

In a training ground in 2017, Alli made light work of his former teammate, Georges-Kevin N'Koudou, who joined Besiktas in 2019.

2. Tim Howard

Most saves in a World Cup match

Former Everton goalie, Tim Howard, also has a unique world record under his belt as a masterful performance in 2014 during the World Cup match between Belgium and the USA saw him pull off an impressive 16 saves. No goalkeeper has ever emerged with those numbers.

3. Nicklas Bendtner

Fastest goal by a substitute

While Bendtner did not live up to his hype with only 45 goals in six seasons at Arsenal, he had one memorable moment as a Gunner, which ultimately put him in the record books.

Lord Bendtner is the proud owner of the fastest goal as a substitute in the Premier League. He achieved this in 2007, when he came on as a sub in the North London derby and found the back of the net six seconds later.

4. Christian Benteke

Fastest goal in international football history

Who can forget the incredible bicycle kick Christian Benteke scored against Manchester United back in 2015?

The goal was definitely a classic, but that’s not what we’re here for today, as the Belgian international holds a unique record of scoring the fastest goal in competitive international football history. This record was achieved after Benteke scored within 8.1 seconds of the game during a World Cup qualifier against Gilbatar in 2016.

5. Jone Samuelsen

Longest headed goal scored in competitive football

Jone Samuelsen is not a name that is very popular among football fans, but the former Norwegian footballer once scored a header from 58.13 metres out in a game between ODD Grenland against Tromso Idrettslag.

Ronaldo holds several world records

Sports Brief also looked at some of the incredible Guinness World Records held by Cristiano Ronaldo, including his listing as La Liga's most successful penalty taker of 61.

The Real Madrid and Manchester United legend has made an impact at every club he has ever joined, and his recent move to Al-Nassr seems to have gone to plan thus far.
