FootballThe Only 4 Times African Countries Have Defeated Brazil at Senior Level
- Sadio Mane scored a brace as Senegal beat Brazil in a friendly
- Senegal have joined two other African countries to have defeated Brazil
- Brazil have lost three matches in their last four games against African countries
Brazil has a storied footballing history with a remarkable legacy. The Samba Boys have won the FIFA World Cup a record-breaking five times, more than any other nation.
Their success includes iconic players like Pelé, Zico, Romário, Ronaldo Nazario and Ronaldinho who have all made significant contributions to the game.
The South Americans' history of success and the numerous talented players they have produced contribute to their reputation as one of the best teams in the world.
The Selecao have a long history of matches against African teams. They have faced several African teams in the FIFA World Cup and played numerous friendly matches against them over the years.
The results of these matches can vary, but Brazil has generally been successful against African opponents in friendly encounters.
However, Sports Brief looks at the four times African countries defeated Brazil at the senior level.
Brazil 0-1 Cameroon (2003 Confederations Cup)
Brazil and Cameroon have faced off against each other seven times in the past; the South American powerhouse has, unsurprisingly, won five of those games.
According to FIFA, the Selecao first met the Indomitable Lions in the group stage of the 1994 World Cup, recording a 3-0 win with Romario, Marcio Santos and Bebeto on the scoresheet.
Current Cameroon head coach Rigobert Song was red carded in that game.
A 2-0 friendly win in 1996 preceded an identical success in the 2001 Confederations Cup for Brazil, but the Samba Boys were stunned by the Africans in the 2003 Confederations Cup.
As reported by Football Ghana, Samuel Eto'o's goal gave Cameroon a 1-0 group win on route to the final, although that tournament was marred by the death of former Manchester City man Marc-Vivien Foe during Cameroon's semi-final win over Colombia.

FootballCameroon 1-0 Brazil (2022 World Cup)
Cameroon scripted history, once again, to become the first African country to defeat Brazil at the World Cup.
The Indomitable Lions took advantage of the South American giants, who rested a host of regulars but still saw their World Cup campaign end after an entertaining encounter at Lusail Stadium in Qatar 2022.
Vincent Aboubakar headed the winner in stoppage time, but his joy immediately turned to disappointment as he was given a second yellow card for taking his shirt off.
Morocco 2-1 Brazil (2023 Friendly)
Morocco became the second African team to beat Brazil at the senior level after the Atlas Lions recorded a 2-1 win in an international friendly.
The match was played in front of a packed home crowd in Tangier in March this year. Brazil paraded the likes of Vinicius Junior, Casemiro, Antony, Rodrygo, and Eder Militao but fell short of the North Africans.

FootballMorocco took the lead in the 29th minute through Sofiane Boufal before Casemiro equalised for Brazil 67 minutes in. But in the 79th minute, Abdelhamid Sabiri scored the winner to give Morocco a historic win.
This is the third time Morocco and Brazil have clashed. Their first encounter was a friendly game in 1997 which Brazil won 2-0. And in the group stage of the France 1998 World Cup, Brazil thrashed the North Africans 3-0.
Senegal 4-2 Brazil (2023 Friendly)
Brazil's woes against African countries continued on Tuesday, June 20, as they suffered a 4-2 defeat to Senegal thanks to a brace from Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane.
Habib Diallo scored the equalising goal for Senegal after Lucas Paqueta had put Brazil ahead. An own goal from PSG star Marquinhos early gave the Terranga Lions the lead, with Mane extending their advantage to make it 3-1.
Marquinhos pulled one back for the Samba Boys, but Mane got his second goal with a late penalty.
