Joselu joins boyhood club Real Madrid on loan from Espanyol until June 2024
The former Real Madrid academy graduate was high on Madrid's list of forwards, and it is believed his goalscoring prowess would come in handy for Los Blancos who recently announced the exits of four of their forwards.
According to reports from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the forward’s loan deal includes a buy-option worth €1.5 million which is reported to not be mandatory.
The 33-year-old was part of the Spanish national team that celebrated winning the UEFA Nations League. During La Roja's celebrations back in their home country he spoke about his move to Real Madrid.
Quoted by Madrid Xtra, he said:
“I have signed for the best club in the world. Hala Madrid!”
Joselu enjoyed a superb past season at the Estadi Cornellà-El Prat, scoring 17 goals in 38 games across competitions.
He finished third in the La Liga top scorers’ chart with 16 goals, three shy of former Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema whose shoes he will be filling.
The Frenchman has left Carlo Ancelotti's side and joined Saudi giants Al Ittihad, leaving Madrid in dire need of a goalscorer.
It was just seven years ago that Joselu was playing for EFL Championship outfit Stoke City. He is now going to be playing for a team he regards as the greatest in the world.
However, Los Blancos may not stop there with regards to bolstering their attack this summer. They are in the race to sign PSG striker Kylian Mbappe.

Joselu’s time at Real Madrid
Joselu joined Real Madrid's youth academy in 2010 and played for Castilla. In the two seasons with the reserve team, he was the top scorer in the team.
In the second season, 2011-12, he proved to be instrumental in winning promotion to the Second Division as champions of the division. The forward scored 19 goals in the regular league and seven more in the promotion play-offs.
His eye-catchy performances for Castilla saw him make his debut for Real Madrid on 21 May 2011, against Almería at the Bernabéu, scoring just three minutes after coming off the bench in that LaLiga match.
The forward would be looking to replicate his brilliant stint at Real Madrid.
Joselu becomes Spain’s surprise hero
Sports Brief earlier reported that 33-years old Joselu has emerged as an unlikely hero for Luis de La Fuente’s Spanish side.
The Madrid striker has three goals in three matches, including a late winner against Italy on Thursday which sent Spain into the Nations League final. Spain eventually clinched their first trophy in over a decade with a victory over Croatia.
