FootballArthur Zwane Names One Reason Why Kaizer Chiefs Struggled Last Season
- Kaizer Chiefs finished fifth in the DStv Premiership season last season and failed to win silverware
- Arthur Zwane has blamed injuries for ruining the Amakhosi's progress during the 2022/23 season
- Keagan Dolly explained how the team could not build momentum because of the constant injuries
Arthur Zwane is reflecting on Kaizer Chiefs’ disappointing 2022/23 season.
The Amakhosi finished fifth in the DStv Premiership and recorded 12 losses in the league, the most in their top flight history.
The Soweto Giants also failed to win any silverware and also failed to qualify for continental competitions next season either.
Speaking about the season that passed, Zwane blamed injuries for scuppering the club’s progress this season, Soccer Laduma reported.
“To sum it all up, I would say injuries were the enemy of progress this past season, and unfortunately, we could not control injuries. I’ve never seen so many injuries in one season,” he said.
As noted by Goal, the Amakhosi had six big-name players out of action at one stage, with Dillan Solomons, Cole Alexander, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo, Erick Matoho, Khama Billiat, and Reeve Frosler all out of action simultaneously.
Midfielder, Keagan Dolly also spent time on the sidelines during the season and echoed Zwane’s words:
“The impact of the injuries was big. It played a huge role in building our chemistry because we would play two or three games with one tea, get used to everyone and understanding each other, and then someone gets a knock, and we have to go back and fix the problem.”
Dolly added that this happened throughout the season, and the club could never build momentum.
