  • Arthur Zwane has failed to guide Kaizer Chiefs to continental football next season, and the club fans are upset
  • Footage shows the moment fans attacked the tactician shortly after their 1-0 loss to SuperSport United
  • The result means Amakhosi can only finish in fourth position after losing their penultimate match of the season

Irate Kaizer Chiefs fans went haywire after the club missed out on a chance to qualify for continental football next season; consequently, they attacked Arthur Zwane.

Viral footage shows the moment police officers escorted the manager out of the stadium as angry club supporters hurled objects at the coach.

Gamphani Jones Lungu’s 40th-minute goal was enough as SuperSport United condemned the visitors to a 1-0 loss on Saturday, May 13.

The result means Chiefs can only finish in fourth position and will miss out on CAF football next season.

GOAL reports that Zwane was unimpressed with his players as he questioned their attitude during the crucial encounter.

He told SuperSport TV via SNL24:

“I have always been saying that our attitude sometimes is something that you cannot control. We were playing for the third spot and you win this game and close the gap, and that should come from you [as a player].
"As a coach, you can come up with the tactics and everything. But I think they tried, there was a point where we looked like we were going to create something out of nothing.
"We made them look good because they did not win the ball from us, we kept giving away the ball and we got punished again form sloppy defending. When you look at that goal, we could have done better in terms of defending but that has been the story of our season."

Recall that Kaizer Chiefs were runners-up in the 2021 CAF Champions League, but now they are tied on 51 points with Orlando Pirates, who played out a one-all draw with Sekhukhune at Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Red Card spree for Chiefs’ opponents

Sports Brief earlier reported that since the start of the Premier Soccer League in 1996, no team has had as many of its opponents sent off in a season as Kaizer Chiefs in the current campaign.

No less than nine players have been red-carded while trying to keep the Amakhosi at bay.

This has led to whispers and shouting about the merit of these dismissals, with many accusing referees of being biased in Kaizer Chiefs' favour.
