  • Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday, June 18, defeated Sierra Leone 3-2 in Liberia
  • The encounter gave Jose Peseiro and his wards the ticket for the 2023 African Cup of Nations
  • Before the end of the match, a fan ran into the pitch to salute Napoli forward Victor Osimhen

A Liberian football fan on Sunday, June 18, invaded the pitch in Monrovia during the African Cup of Nations qualifying match between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Sierra Leone national team.

The encounter was a challenging one for the three-time African champions as they had to score at the death to record a win over their hosts who wanted to get a point in the duel.

Napoli forward Victor Osimhen was the man of the match as he scored a brace for Nigeria in their 3-2 win over Sierra Leone and took his goal tally for the Super Eagles to 17.

After Osimhen scored his second goal against the Stars, a pitch invader was so elated, subsequently rushing in to celebrate the former Lille striker.

How did Osimhen react?

According to the photo posted on Twitter and the report on Opera, Osimhen was happy to see a fan invading the pitch to appreciate him.

The pitch Invader was on the floor as he was visibly holding the leg of the former Golden Eaglets' star who was kind of standing in an awkward position.

There is still interest in the Nigerian forward from various European clubs, and it remains to be seen what will happen prior to the 2023/24 season kicking off.

Osimhen nets brace vs Sierra Leone

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen is inching closer to Rashidi Yekini’s all-time goals record for the Super Eagles.

The 24-year-old Napoli of Italy striker netted a brace in Nigeria’s 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The victory confirms Nigeria’s place at the 2023 edition of the continental showpiece, which starts in Ivory Coast next January.

It was Osimhen’s 25th appearance for the Nigerian national team, having made his debut back in 2017.
