GolfAndre Onana: Manchester United Fans Ask Club to Sign Former Ajax Goalkeeper to Replace de Gea
- David De Gea could be set for an exit at Manchester United after he was put on the released list
- Contract talks between the club and the Spanish goalkeeper have not gone smoothly
- Fans have picked Inter Milan goalkeeper Andre Onana as his successor
Manchester United fans want Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana to be the club’s number 1 next season even if long-term starter David De Gea renews his contract.
Onana is linked with a move away from Inter Milan after just one season in Italy, having joined on a free transfer after opting not to renew his Ajax contract.
He enjoyed a stellar relationship with current United boss Erik ten Hag when the two worked together at Ajax and will have no issue adapting to his philosophy.
The Red Devils are in contract extension talks with current goalkeeper De Gea but wage cut and his starting berth not guaranteed next season are holding off negotiations. According to talkSPORT, he could stay despite being on the released list.
United fans clamour for Onana
The Spaniard was specifically hammered for his distribution and inability to claim crosses which fans feel is detrimental to ten Hag’s philosophy of building from the back.
Onana, in this regard, is seen as one of the best in the world. The compilation of his sweeper goalkeeper actions has gone viral on Twitter, which got Reds fans clamouring for him.
