FootballBrighton Have Already Found Mac Allister Replacement, Days After Losing Midfielder to Liverpool
- Brighton have signed Syrian-German superstar Mahmoud Dahoud for free
- Dahoud is largely viewed as a direct replacement for Alexis Mac Allister, who recently joined Liverpool
- The 27-year-old has signed a four-year deal with the Seagulls
Premier League dark horses Brighton and Hove Albion have completed the signing of Mahmoud Dahoud on a free transfer from Borussia Dortmund.
Mahmoud, who is of Syrian descent, has signed a four-year deal with The Seagulls, who recently lost Alexis Mac Allister to Liverpool recently.
Roberto e Zerbi’s side also secured the signatures of James Milner, whose contract at Liverpool ran out, and Joao Pedro from Watford.
But the signing of Dahoud will excite fans as the 27-year-old has a decent reputation as a master of dictating play deep in midfield.
Everything to know about Dahoud
As reported on BBC, the Syria-born midfielder represents Germany on international level and has earned two caps.
He featured 141 times for Borussia Dortmund but was restricted to just 10 appearances across all competitions in the just-concluded season because of a stubborn shoulder injury which required surgery last summer.
His breakthrough season came in 2015-16 when he helped Borussia Monchengladbach qualify for the Champions League, and his prowess deep in midfield prompted Thomas Tuchel to sign him in 2017.
Fans have tipped him to succeed at Brighton for two reasons; the ability of De Zerbi to bring the best out of players, and the fact that he will likely pair up with the experienced Milner in midfield.
Here is what the Brighton boss had to say about the midfielder’s arrival”
'I'm excited to have Mahmoud in my team. I wanted him when I was at Sassuolo and I'm sure he is going to be a top player for us,' said De Zerbi.
