  • Juventus leads the pack as the club with the most league titles in Europe's top 5
  • Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich also made the top rankings
  • Barcelona, Manchester City, and Liverpool were clubs to miss out on the elite list

Winning a league title even once is a huge accomplishment, and the teams that have done so repeatedly and consecutively deserve to be recognised.

Europe’s top five leagues are considered more difficult to win due to the level of competition and quality of teams participating in these leagues.

The English Premier League, the Italian Serie A, the German Bundesliga, the Spanish La Liga, and the French Ligue 1 are considered the toughest leagues in Europe and are known as the top 5.

In the 2022/23 season, Bayern Munich were crowned champions of Germany for an 11th consecutive season, earning a spot among teams who have won the most domestic titles, Al Jazeera reports.

Sports Brief, along with a report by Sportskeeda, ranks the top five teams to have won the most domestic league titles across Europe’s top five leagues.

5. Paris Saint-Germain (Ligue 1) - 11 times

Unsurprisingly, Paris Saint-Germain has won the most Ligue 1 titles in France. They have won the championship 11 times, including the most recent victory in the 2022/23 season. The Parisians' first title was back in the 1985/86 season.

4. Manchester United (Premier League) - 13 times

With 13 Premier League titles, Manchester United has more than any other team in England. In the inaugural 1992/93 season, the Red Devils won their first league championship and did so another 12 times, making them the English team with the most EPL titles by a country mile, with noisy neighbours, Manchester City in second place with seven triumphs.

3. Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) - 33 times

Bayern Munich, one of Europe's heavyweights, has won the Bundesliga the most times - 33 times, in fact. The Bavarians won their first league title in 1932, and their most recent championship came on the final day of the recently concluded 2022/23 season.

2. Real Madrid (La Liga) - 35 times

Real Madrid has won the La Liga title more than any other team in Spain, including rival club, Barcelona. Los Blancos have won it 35 times, while the second-placed La Blaugrana have 27 titles.

Real Madrid's first title came in the 1931/32 season, and their most recent came in the 2021/22 season. Los Merengues will attempt to reclaim their lost title to their archrivals heading into the new term.

1. Juventus (Serie A) - 36 times

Juventus leads the domestic title count with an impressive 36 titles. With Inter Milan trailing with 19 titles, it is safe to assume the Old Lady's record titleholder position will be held for many more years.

Juventus won their first league title in 1905, and their most recent victory came in the 2019/20 season. Among their record 33 titles, they won the championship for nine consecutive seasons from 2011/12 to 2019/20.

Man City are treble winners

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Manchester City's class of 2022/23 staking their claim to be ranked as English football's greatest ever team after their Champions League triumph against Inter Milan.

The Citizens' tense 1-0 victory in Istanbul on Saturday made them only the second English club - after city rivals, Manchester United - to win the Premier League, FA Cup, and UCL titles in a single season.
