Ghanaian-born Canadian, Alphonso Davies has revealed that the Football Association of the West African nation made an approach for him to play for the Black Stars.
However, the Bayern Munich star declined the move, claiming it came too late.
According to Davies, the GFA only contacted him via Instagram after he was about to join the German giants and had already secured his Canadian citizenship.
“Ghana never reached out and also my mum was like, no [to the idea of me playing for Ghana],” he said, as quoted by FootballGhana.
“I was playing like not even [at] the academy, they never said [anything about wanting me], I wasn’t a big name. When the news came out that I was going to Bayern, then I got a message from the Ghana Federation.
“I think it was someone on the federation, he texted me on Instagram because he didn’t have my number or email. But it was too late, at that time I had already got my citizenship and already made it to [represent] Canada.”
Davies was born in Ghana to Liberian parents before leaving for Canada at a very young age.
Davies makes history with Canada
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Bayern Munich superstar, Alphonso Davies scored the fastest goal at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Davies had a chance to open his goal account at the tournament during their Group F opener against Belgium on Wednesday, November 24, when his side won a penalty.
However, the midfielder fluffed the opportunity as Canada went on to suffer a 1-0 frustrating loss.
Davies linked with Real Madrid
