Manchester City inked their name into the history books as they became the latest club in European football to have ever won the treble.

City completed a historic treble this season after an incredible run of form and results across competitions under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola.

The English giants initially beat Arsenal to the Premier League crown with three games to spare, before seeing off rivals Manchester United in the final of the FA Cup.

Having won the two titles, City set their sights on the ever-elusive Champions League trophy, which they eventually secured for the first time in their history on Saturday night.

According to Sky Sports, Guardiola's charges stunned Italian side Inter Milan 1-0 in Istanbul to win the European elite competition.

Rodri was City's match hero, with his solitary goal in the second half of the match winning them the coveted crown.

The victory was enough to earn them an unprecedented treble, joining seven other top clubs who have previously won three trophies in a single season.

Sports Brief takes a look at the seven clubs that have won the treble:

1. Barcelona (2008/09 and 2014/15)

The Spanish giants have won the treble on two occasions.

They won it first during the 2008/09 season under Pep Guardiola before replicating the feat in 2014/15 with Luis Enrique.

2. Bayern Munich (2012/13 and 2019/20)

Just like Barcelona, Bayern Munich have also won the treble twice in their history.

The Bundesliga side had a taste of the feat for the first time in 2012/13 with Jupp Heynckes, before Hans-Dieter Flick added another in 2019/20.

3. Ajax (1971/72)

The Dutch giants were among the first teams in Europe to have ever won the treble.

Ajax achieved the milestone in 1971/72 and are yet to replicate the feat.

4. PSV (1987/88)

The Dutch side had their own fair share of success in 1987/88.

5. Inter Milan (2009/10)

Inter are the only Italian team to have ever won the treble.

The Serie A side made their mark during the 2009/10 season.

6. Celtic (1966/67)

According to Metro UK, Celtic are the first British team to win the treble.

Celtic made history during the 1966/67 season.

7. Man United (1998/99)

Until Man City, United were the only Premier League team to have ever won the treble.

The Red Devils secured theirs during the 1998/99 season under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

At the time, the Red Devils beat Arsenal to the Premier League title by just one point before overcoming Newcastle to lift the FA Cup.

United went on to stun Bayern Munich in the Champions League final to secure the European crown, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer the hero after he scored the winner at Camp Nou.

Inside Man City's celebrations

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Manchester City stars were on cloud nine as they celebrated their Champions League triumph on Saturday night.

Jack Grealish led the celebrations, which spilt over into a nightclub, with the Englishman spotted downing a few cans of booze.

On his part, Erling Haaland toasted his fine season with a cigar. Kevin De Bruyne, who hobbled off with an injury in the first half, joined his teammates for the celebrations.
