Guinea captain, Naby Keita has returned to Germany after signing for Werder Bremen following his departure from English giants Liverpool.

The midfielder joins the Bundesliga outfit on a free transfer.

Before moving to England, Keita enjoyed a successful stint in the German league, helping RB Leipzig qualify for the UEFA Champions League.

However, injuries hampered his career in England, although he did win the English Premier League and the UEFA Champions League.

"I’m really excited for my new challenge here in Bremen," said Keita, as quoted by the club's website.
"I was impressed by what the club told me about the setup here and Werder’s style of play. The coach gave me a really good feeling and showed how I can help the team.
"Werder is a special club and I know the Weserstadion from my time with Leipzig. This club and its philosophy will be a good match for me, so this is the right step for my career."

Werder Bremen manager, Ole Wagner believes the arrival of Keita will add some rich experience to his team.

"Naby is a technically gifted and hard-running midfielder, who will provide us with lots more flexibility. He is dangerous in front of goal and can also provide assists too," he said.
"He will be an important figure in the centre of the pitch for our squad. He played in a Champions League final last year and has so much experience on the international stage, which our team will only benefit from. I’m really looking forward to working with him."

Keita will join Bremen in pre-season next month as preparations begin for the 2023/24 season.

Thuram reaches agreement with Liverpool

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Liverpool are reportedly closing in on their second signing of the season in the form of Nice midfielder, Khephren Thuram.

The Frenchman has reportedly been on Liverpool’s radar since January 2022, and Jurgen Klopp’s side is now set to make an official move for his services.

Talks are reportedly underway between the Reds and Nice as the two parties try to find common ground in terms of transfer fees.
