West Ham United and Fiorentina are set to battle tonight for the chance to succeed AS Roma as the UEFA Europa Conference League winners.
The third-tier European competition that debuted last year was won by Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.
The English club beat Dutch opponents AZ Alkmaar 3-1 on aggregate in the semi-final, while the Italians beat FC Basel 4-3 on aggregate with a last-gasp goal in the semi-final.
According to Evening Standard, the final presents West Ham with a chance to win a first trophy since the 1980 FA Cup, while for Fiorentina, it would be their pass to Europe next season after they finished 8th in Serie A.
West Ham, Fiorentina fans clash
According to a video from Sky Sports reporter Rob Harris, the fans of the two clubs clashed in Prague hours before kickoff at the Eden Arena.
The report added that the Italians made the first move on the Brits, as bottles and chairs were seen flying around in the video.
A corroborating report by West Ham Central on Twitter claimed that it all started when the Italians started cussing at the Hammers, which led to the brawl.
Both clubs are yet to comment on the incident, but Czech police have reportedly diffused the situation.
AZ fans attack West Ham
This was not the first case of violence on European nights involving West Ham. Sports Brief reported that AZ ultras attacked the families of the London club during the semi-final, including David Moyes’ aged father.
A fan stepped up and fought back at the attackers to protect the families of players and staff in a show of courage and bravery.
The video made rounds on the internet, and the players rewarded him with a hospitality ticket to tonight’s game.
