FootballMason Mount: Stats Show Man United Should Not Sign Chelsea Ace
- Chelsea superstar Mason Mount has been linked with a sensational summer move to Manchester United
- The England international is wanted at Old Trafford to help reinforce United's attacking midfield department
- However, damaging stats have emerged showing that the duo of Eriksen and Fernandes is actually better
Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount has been linked with a possible Stamford Bridge exit this summer.
Mount, a Chelsea graduate, is believed to be keen to depart his boyhood, with Manchester United reportedly the leading contenders for his services.
According to The Sun, the midfielder's deal with the Blues is set to expire next summer, and talks regarding a contract extension have collapsed.
Considering his contract situation, Chelsea are said to be open to cashing in on him this summer rather than lose him for free next year.
Reports have since emerged suggesting the versatile midfielder has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, who are now willing to splash £50million to secure his services.
It is understood that Mount will provide more attacking options in the middle of the park at Old Trafford and potentially provide more competition for Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes.
Stats show United don't need Mount
However, damaging stats have surfaced showing Manchester United are actually better off without Mason Mount.
Findings from Opta show that United's most prolific attacking midfielders, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes, have actually outperformed Mount in key areas.
According to the stats, Fernandes and Eriksen have racked up 0.37 and 0.22 goals per 90 minutes, respectively, compared to Mount's 0.25.
Incredibly, Eriksen beats the England international in almost every department.
For instance, the Red Devils duo have registered 0.31 and 0.28 assists per 90 minutes compared to Mount's paltry 0.2.
Eriksen and Fernandes also beat Mount when it comes to shots on target, with the pair accounting for 0.99 and 1.12 shots compared to the Chelsea star's 0.86.
Casemiro's stats: How has the Brazilian midfielder transformed Manchester United since joining the team?
FootballIn terms of successful tackles, Mount is not anywhere close to the Manchester United stars, who average 0.93 and 0.94, compared to his 0.8.
On successful passes, Mount is also trailing his potential teammates, having registered just 37.28 of successful passes.
Perhaps the only department the Englishman beats the pair is on tackles completed.
Mount has completed 1.71 tackles per 90 mins compared to Eriksen and Fernandes' 1.32 and 1.69, respectively.
