  • Mosimane has not been a fan of foreign coaches in the country, believing local coaches needed more respect

Pitso Mosimane has softened his stance on foreign coaches.

Mosimane, who previously said that foreign coaches had done little in South Africa, has praised one for his impact in the DStv Premiership.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns, who recently returned to the country for a bit, took time out to praise Jose Riveiro and the work he has done at Orlando Pirates.

The Spaniard won the Nedbank Cup and MTN8 with the Buccaneers and also led the side to a second-place finish in the league.

As noted by iDiski Times, Jingles hailed the impact that Riveiro had on the Soweto giants in his first season at the side.

“The coach, first year, two trophies; I’m very impressed. I’ve been listening to him about formations and tactics; he’s very spot on, knows his stuff, is calm, humble, and done very well.

Mosimane further added that he wanted to see this from European coaches in the country.

“You know my opinion about European coaches coming to South Africa. This is what we need to see. This is value-added, brilliant,” he added.

Mosimane’s comments about foreign coaches

Jingles hasn’t always been a fan of foreign coaches, and in 2019, said that local coaches needed to be given more time at clubs.

As noted by News24, Mosimane claimed that foreign coaches hadn’t made a difference in the country.

His comments stemmed from the fact that many Premier Soccer League sides were appointing foreign coaches instead of giving locals a chance.

"You know how many years they've been here? What have they won? Do you see what I'm trying to say?" Mosimane asked at the time.
“I talk about local coaches because I'm a local coach. If you give them a chance, they can turn things around,” he added.

Sports Brief earlier reported that Kaizer Chiefs fans have been given some hope.

Following another disappointing season without a trophy, Amakhosi supporters have been clamouring for a change in the coach, and the club have even been linked with Pitso Mosimane.

Mosimane has now commented on the links, saying that anything was possible.
