FootballLa Liga Relegation Battle: The Results Each Team Needs to Stay In Spanish Top Flight
- Espanyol alongside Elche have already been relegated to La Liga 2
- Valencia, Cadiz and four others could drop on the final matchday
- The six Spanish teams all have their relegation fate in their hands
La Liga put on another dramatic Sunday night show this past weekend, with the penultimate weekend providing no shortage of drama, including two injury-time goals that changed the equation entirely.
Nevertheless, there are still six sides that could take the final relegation spot.
After Espanyol drew 2-2 away from home with Valencia, Los Pericos have joined Elche in Segunda next season, with Las Palmas and Granada to replace them.
This relegation is Espanyol's second in the last four seasons according to ESPN.
On June 4, La Liga’s 2022/2023 season will come to an end, with results to reveal which the third relegated team is to join Elche and Espanyol in the drop to the second tier.
The six clubs involved in this life-or-death battle are Cádiz on 41 points, Getafe on 41, Valencia on 41, Almería on 40, Celta de Vigo on 40, and Valladolid on 39.
All these teams depend on themselves to remain in La Liga because if they win, they avoid relegation.
Here’s what each team needs to survive, as pointed out by Relevo, bearing in mind the first separator for teams is head-to-head and then in terms of goal difference:
Cádiz
Cádiz will play away against Elche. This will be a tricky game given that Elche, despite being the worst team this season, is now unbeaten in the last four games.
Win: Cadiz avoid relegation no matter what happens in the other matches.
Draw: They avoid relegation.
Lose: They avoid relegation unless Celta wins, Almería wins, Valencia draws or wins, and Valladolid beats Getafe due to the latter's superior goal average and the teams being drawn on head-to-head results.

FootballGetafe
Getafe is set to play against Valladolid away at the José Zorrilla, in a direct duel between two sides fighting to avoid relegation.
Win: Getafe avoid relegation.
Draw: They avoid relegation.
Lose: They avoid relegation if Almería and Celta de Vigo also lose.
Valencia
Valencia will face Real Betis away, who are already qualified for the Europa League and can’t be moved from their 6th spot.
Win: Valencia avoid relegation.
Draw: They avoid relegation
Lose: They avoid relegation unless Almería wins or draws with Espanyol, Celta de Vigo wins, Valladolid wins, and Cádiz loses to Elche.
This is because in case of a triple or quadruple draw on 41 points, the points of all the teams involved are taken into account over head-to-head results and goal average.
Almería
Almería travel to Espanyol’s stadium in a match they’d be expected to win in normal circumstances, given the home side is already relegated.

FootballThe only problem is that Almería are by far the worst away team in La Liga with only one win and four draws.
Win: Almeria avoid relegation.
Draw: They avoid relegation
Lose: They avoid relegation unless Celta de Vigo and Valladolid both win or draw their games.
Celta de Vigo
Celta play at home against a Barcelona squad that hasn’t been too reliable since winning the league title, yet the minnows are less reliable, dropping from 10th to 17th in the last nine matches.
Win: Celta Vigo avoid relegation.
Draw: They avoid relegation if Valladolid draws or loses.
Lose: They avoid relegation if Valladolid draws or loses.
Real Valladolid
Valladolid are seemingly in the worst position to be in at the moment - 18th on 39 points. The good thing is they face Getafe at home, with a win certain to keep them in tier one for another season.
