  • Manchester United are interested in signing Napoli’s centre-back, Kim Min-jae
  • The South Korean replaced Kalidou Koulibaly in Naples and helped the club to the Scudetto title
  • His transfer appears to have received an unexpected challenge and he has issued a statement

Kim Min-jae’s transfer out of Napoli, with the Premier League reported to be a likely destination, has encountered a challenge, and the defender has issued a statement.

Min-jae joined the Serie A champions only a year ago to replace Kalidou Koulibaly, who departed for Chelsea. In his first season, he was at the heart of the defence and helped Napoli win their third title.

His exploits in helping the Neapolitans win their first title in 33 years have made him one of the most sought-after players for top European clubs this season.

Daily Express reported that Manchester United attempted to prise the defender away from Naples in January, but Aurelio De Laurentiis was not interested in any offer.

Min-jae’s statement on fake agents

United retain their long-standing interest in the Asian, but have now been joined by top-four rivals Newcastle United, as reported by Sports Mole.

The two clubs are reportedly willing to meet his valuation of £60m and have met with his representatives over a move, as De Laurentiis is now willing to sanction the deal.

But a development yesterday suggested that there could be a problem, as the South Korean issued a statement claiming fake agents have been speaking on his behalf, as reported by GIFN.

“There is a case of impersonating my agent. It is said that they actually meet the players and act as if they are company representatives and impersonate them. Young players, please be especially careful and avoid any damage,” he wrote on Instagram.

He revealed Orange Ball as his legit agent and warned people to avoid speaking with those pretending to represent him.

Min-jae’s transfer domino effect

Sports Brief reported that Arsenal would benefit from Min-jae’s transfer if the South Korean defender joins rivals Manchester United.

Napoli have identified a few options as a replacement; one of them is a player surplus to requirements at Arsenal, who Mikel Arteta is desperate to move on.
