Mamelodi Sundowns’ Teboho Mokoena has had an incredible season once again for the Brazilians, and it’s because of one player.
The midfielder recently revealed that he models his game around an English Premier League star, and it’s working for him.
As noted by Far Post, Mokeona explained that he models elements of his game around Manchester City star, Rodri. Rodri, like Mokoena, is a defensive midfielder for his side.
“Coach Rhulani has reminded me throughout the season that my job is to protect the defence so that we concede fewer goals as a team,” Mokoena said.
“I did a lot of work with the coach. I became interested in Rodri and watching Manchester City and how he moves and defends,” the Sundowns star added.
Rodri and Mokoena’s seasons
Both players enjoyed great success for their sides this season. Mokoena was part of the DStv Premiership-winning side and helped Sundowns to a semi-final spot in the CAF Champions League.
He also won the Midfielder of the Season and Footballer of the Season awards at the recent PSL awards.
Rodri has also experienced success with City in the EPL. City won the title with games to spare, are in the final of the FA Cup, and will battle Inter Milan for the UEFA Champions League title.
As noted by Transfermarkt, the Citizens star has already made 54 appearances for the side in all competitions this season, scoring three goals and notching seven assists.
With the awards he earned this season proving that his hard work is paying off, Mokoena promised to continue helping the side to dominate in future.
