FootballRooney Predicts Who Will Win the FA Cup Final Between Man United and City
- Wayne Rooney has predicted that Manchester United will beat rivals City when they meet during the FA Cup final
- However, Rooney contends United would need 'to cheat a bit' if they are to stand a chance against Guardiola's men
- City are chasing a historic treble this season, having already retained the Premier League crown
Wayne Rooney has advised Manchester United on what they should do to beat rivals Man City ahead of their FA Cup final meeting.
The two Manchester teams are scheduled to face off in this season's final of the domestic competition on Saturday, June 3, at Wembley Stadium.
The match comes at a time when City are chasing a historic treble, having already secured the Premier League title after they beat Arsenal to the crown.
United, meanwhile, will be keen to complete a double with the FA Cup, after they won the League Cup back in February against Newcastle.
According to The Mirror, the Red Devils will be heading to Wembley as the underdogs, with City the heavy favourites to claim the trophy.
Rooney's FA Cup final prediction
Rooney, a Man United legend, has now advised his former club on what they must do to stand a chance against Pep Guardiola's men.
While City are guaranteed to dominate possession in the match, the former England international wants to see the United forwards maintain high positions to give City fresh conundrums.
"For City’s players, staff and supporters, the FA Cup final will feel no less significant than it does for United and I’m expecting an exciting, tight game. I have a feeling it’s going to go to extra-time and penalties and, for some reason, I feel United will win. I certainly hope they do. How could they do it? Well, I think Erik ten Hag has to gamble a bit," Rooney told The Times.
Lyon set to miss out on Europe as new era begins
Football"My strategy would be to go the other way and ask City to do something different. I’d try something similar to a tactic José Mourinho sometimes deployed in his first spell at Chelsea, where he would get the likes of Joe Cole, Arjen Robben, and Damien Duff to take up 'half' positions.
"They didn’t come all the way back and defend when Chelsea were out of possession but instead, cheat a bit and wait higher up the pitch in areas from which they could counterattack as soon as Chelsea won the ball back," he added.
Chelsea Women win FA Cup
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Chelsea Women did the club proud after beating Manchester United Women 1-0 to win the Vitality Women’s FA Cup at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, 14 May.
The men’s team has been underwhelming this season, and are certain to finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table for the first time in almost 30 years.
