  • The Premier League is heading towards an interesting finale, with Manchester City set to clinch a third title in a row
  • Pep Guardiola’s side are four points clear off Arsenal with a game in hand
  • The Citizens could wrap up the title as early as next weekend under two different scenarios

Manchester City could be crowned Premier League champions next Saturday, depending on two results.

Pep Guardiola’s men have done incredibly to not only close the gap on Arsenal in recent weeks, but also to overtake the Gunners, who have suffered a spectacular collapse in the title race.

A 3-0 defeat at home to Brighton all but confirmed the end to Arsenal’s title bid, with City now well on course for a third straight league title in a row.

What can happen next weekend

As per the Premier League website, Arsenal travel to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, May 20, bearing in mind they are mathematically still in the title race.

However, their faint hopes could be ended, and City would be crowned champions without kicking a ball if the Gunners lose against Forest.

If Arsenal win against Nottingham, then it would mean City would have to beat Chelsea on Sunday, May 21, to win the title by their own hands.

The maximum number of points Arsenal can accrue this season is 87, while City already have 85 points with three games left against Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford, according to BBC.

Meanwhile, Arsenal’s two remaining fixtures are against Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton Wanderers. It seems highly impossible with the points each team have and could possibly have at the end of the season, that City can possibly bottle this one.

“Pathetic" Arsenal slammed

Sports Brief also reported on Piers Morgan’s scathing assessment of his Arsenal side after a 3-0 defeat to Brighton.

The hosts went down thanks to goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan.

Piers had no kind words for Arsenal stars, describing their performance against Brighton as 'pathetic' and 'spiritless.'
