Bayern Munich had to wait on the final day to clinch their 11th successive Bundesliga crown in picturesque style.

Going into the final day of the season, the title was within Dortmund’s grasp, boasting a two-point lead however, the Yellow and Blacks spurned a golden chance to end Bayern's Bundesliga dominance.

A Dejan Ljubicic penalty sandwiched between a goal from Kingsley Coman and Jamal Musiala handed the Bavarians a dramatic win against FC Koln as Mainz held Dortmund to confirm Thomas Tuchel's charges as German champions, CNN reports.

Shortly after the final whistle resounded, Dortmund's players collapsed onto the ground, grieving over a championship that, in the most excruciating manner, eluded their grasp.

While Signal Iduna Park in Dortmund was filled with heartbreak, across Germany, in Cologne, the travelling Bayern fans celebrated with their team after they witnessed a melodramatic end to the season and an 11th championship to boot.

The scenes at the RheinEnergie Stadion were that of pure bliss as the Bayern Munich players celebrated their championship triumph with the travelling fans.

Bayern win 11th Bundesliga title

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Bayern Munich have won their 11th straight Bundesliga title, a 90th-minute goal from Jamal Musiala sealing a late 2-1 win at Cologne after Borussia Dortmund were held 2-2 at home to Mainz.

With Bayern needing a win to overtake Dortmund, the England-raised Germany forward hammered home with the clock winding down, ensuring the Bavarians keep their grip on the title for another season.

Dortmund knew a win would guarantee a title but were 2-0 down after just 25 minutes, with striker Sebastien Haller also having missed a penalty.
