Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal is the latest to add his voice to the ongoing and endless GOAT debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Lionel Messi took one step ahead of his close competitor by helping Argentina win the 2022 FIFA World Cup held in Qatar in December.
It was the final piece of Messi’s career, having reached the final in a losing attempt to Germany in Brazil in 2014. He was named the best player on both occasions - the only player to win the award twice.
Ronaldo had an outing to forget in Qatar; his only goal against Ghana made him the only player to score in five tournaments, as talkSPORT reported. However, a quarter-final elimination left him in tears.
O’Neal declares love for Messi
As he is fondly referred to, Big Shaq caught up with Club Miami TV at the NBA Eastern Conference finals and was asked to send a message to Messi.
“I would like to tell you that I love you, brother. You are the best and it will be a pleasure to get to know you,” he said in a mixture of English and Spanish, via Albiceleste Talk.
Shaq’s dream of meeting the Argentine superstar could soon become a reality. He is confirmed to be leaving Paris Saint-Germain this summer, and Major League Soccer is one of the possible destinations.
According to CBS Sports, David Beckham’s Inter Miami remain interested in bringing the 35-year-old, who has a house in Florida, to the MLS, despite a mouthwatering offer from Saudi Arabia.
Cahill indecisive in GOAT debate
Sports Brief reported that former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill gave his verdict on the GOAT debate but could not choose one.
He played against both men during his time at Stamford Bridge. He praised the two excellent sportsmen and passed on the question of the greatest.
