  • Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the greatest footballers of all time
  • There is an unending debate on who is the greatest of all time between the two
  • Former Chelsea defender Gary Cahill weighed in on the debate but struggled to choose one

Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo are two of the greatest footballers of all time across all eras. They have written most of the football records and set new ones.

The pair have twelve Ballon d'Ors and have won many trophies, including multiple UEFA Champions League trophies and league titles in different countries.

Messi led Argentina to victory at the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup in December, a feat which has made many accord him as the greatest of all time.

Cahill speaks on GOAT debate

The former England international had a hard time choosing between the two greats. He highlighted the attributes that set them apart from their peers.

''Messi and Ronaldo, I think these guys, the numbers that they produce is just mindblowing, really. The amount of games they have played, the amount of goals they've scored, again, the amount of titles they've won speak for itself. Two of the best players in world football,'' he told SportBible.
''Two big presences on a football pitch, so I can't choose between them. I can't choose. The numbers are just incredible and obviously very similar.''

The former Bolton defender's indecision looks quite honest as the two are close first and second in most football metrics and hard to separate.

The two are defying age and going strong. Both scored freekicks for their countries, Argentina and Portugal, in their last international games against Panama and Liechtenstein.

Heinze snubs Messi in GOAT debate

Sports Brief earlier reported that Gabriel Heinze snubbed Messi in the GOAT debate and instead went for Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Argentina international played with Ronaldo for three years at Manchester United and with Messi in the national team but ignored his compatriot.

The 42-year-old said Ronaldo could not get better as he is already next to God in his abilities.
