FootballNeo Maema: Mamelodi Sundowns Star Breaks Silence Over Continued Bafana Bafana Omissions
- Neo Maema has disclosed that he will wait for his time to earn a call up into the national team
- South Africa have a date with Morocco in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations slated for June 17
- Coach Hugo Broos has named his potential squad for the encounter, and Maema’s name is missing
Following the continued omission of his name from players selected to represent the South African national football team, Neo Maema has spoken up.
Since his move from the now-defunct- Bloemfontein Celtic to Sundowns, Maema has become a standout performer in South African football.
The 27-year-old has formed a formidable partnership with Teboho Mokoena, Marcelo Allende and Themba Zwane.
However, he has never earned a national team call-up, and many also feel he should have been nominated for the PSL Midfielder of the Season.
He has not featured in any national team set-up, and manager Hugo Broos has also ignored the exciting player in his latest Bafana Bafana squad.
Maema told iDiski Times:
“The Bafana Bafana issue, it’s actually, I’m more of a spiritual person and I believe in God with everything I have, I know how it feels for a player to actually represent their country.
“I can see – if those people who were called up to the national team, if they are called upon as an answered prayer – who I am to fight God?
“I also try to make sure that I actually stay consistent in my performances, although it’s not been that consistent, you know… but I make sure I’m continuing to raise my level and I’ll wait for my chance.
“It will come, it will open – God has his own ways of doing things.”
Sundowns dominate Broos’ squad
Sports Brief earlier reported that Hugo Broos is ready for the challenge of Morocco in Bafana Bafana’s next AFCON qualifier.
