Everton star, Alex Iwobi previously provided insight on why Dele Alli's career has taken a turn for the worst in recent seasons.

Alli's tumble is undoubtedly one of the saddest things to be witnessed in professional football, given how much promise he showed when he burst into the scene under Mauricio Pochettino in January 2016.

Pochettino's sacking has always been credited to the loss of form of the former England international. He endured a strained relationship with Jose Mourinho before having a mini-resurgence under Nuno Espirito.

The club then shipped him off to Everton, where it was thought he would benefit from Frank Lampard's tutelage, with the Chelsea legend one of the best-ever midfielders despite his struggles in management.

Iwobi's thoughts on Alli

It is on the blue side of Merseyside where Alli and Iwobi met.

Appearing on the Filthy Fellas podcast, the Nigerian explained it was hard for managers to trust the Englishman because of his tendencies when training.

"With him, he will say it himself; he isn’t a training player, unless it’s a match in training and then you see Dele perform. When it comes to training matches, he is a joke."

Iwobi explained that when it came to drills, Alli tried but was slower about it.

"When it comes to games, he will score and assist or something. It was hard for him to play. If you’re not just doing it in training, and at the time, the manager needed reliable players. He couldn’t really put his trust in him. We all know Dele could have performed."

Everton sent the 27-year-old to Besiktas on loan, where he fell out with senior officials at the Turkish club. He remains under contract at Goodison Park until 2024.

It remains to be seen if he will remain at the club beyond this summer, with the Toffees currently battling to survive relegation.

Alli's interview with Gary Neville

As Sports Brief reported, Alli is the man of the moment after he took the bold step of opening up on the challenges of his childhood and football career over the past four years, which has seen him lose touch with what he loves.

Alli, without a doubt, was one of the best English prospects over the last ten years when he came into the limelight at Tottenham, but it did not take long before things went downhill.

Alli's 'bed photo' hits internet

Iwobi's comments are an interesting consideration after a photo emerged of the midfielder in bed with several friends, perhaps highlighting his 'party lifestyle' and the possible detriment of his match performances.

Sports Brief reported that the image was reportedly taken on the same day Alli was spotted with laughing gas canisters surrounding him and a balloon in his mouth.

It is alleged that Alli and his buddies went on a partying spree, clubbing twice in 10 days in Turkey, where he is currently on loan at Besiktas.
