FootballDavid Kannemeyer Blasts Kaizer Chiefs After Another Disappointing Season
- Kaizer Chiefs have not won a trophy in the past eight seasons, and one former player has had enough
- David Kannemeyer has weighed in on Chiefs’ troubles and suggested that the problem is the players
- Kannemeyer believes that management needs to plan ahead, much like Mamelodi Sundowns have done
Kaizer Chiefs' poor season has caught the attention of former players.
Neil Tovey first commented on the actions of fans who attacked Arthur Zwane, and now David Kannemeyer is having his say.
The former Chiefs defender has shared his thoughts on the club’s current form, and he didn’t hold back, Far Post reported. He noted that it wasn’t an issue with the coach that was a problem, but the lack of quality players.
“The fact is there are no quality players at the moment. I think the playing staff is not good enough that’s all reality,” he said.
“It can’t be the coaches; Gavin Hunt was there, Stuart Baxter and Ernst Middendorp were there before. You can bring another coach, and he will fail because there is no quality. Clearly, you can’t fire three coaches in the space of a year and a half and say the coach is the problem, Kannemeyer added.
The former defender has never been shy about sharing his thoughts on the Amakhosi. As noted by The South African, he previously criticised the team’s management for poor planning.
“I think the biggest issue is Chiefs don’t have a long-term plan like Sundowns. I don’t know what their long-term plan is,” he said.
The Amakhosi have failed to win a trophy in eight years, and fans are growing tired of their consistent failures.
With Mamelodi Sundowns picking up a 16th league trophy and Pirates winning the MTN8 and contesting the Nedbank Cup final, the pressure is on for Chiefs also to find success.
