FootballLewandowski Makes Strong Lionel Messi Confession Amid Barcelona Return Rumours
- Robert Lewandowski has opened up about the possibility of playing alongside Lionel Messi
- Messi is approaching the end of his two-year contract with PSG and is reportedly looking to continue his glistening career path away from France
- Meanwhile, Lewandowski is in pole position to win the top scorer's prize in Spain in his debut campaign with Barcelona
Robert Lewandowski has recently made a resounding statement expressing his fervent wish for Lionel Messi to make a fairytale return to Barcelona.
Messi departed Barca in 2021 due to the club's ailing financial situation, joining Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract in the process.
But with his current PSG deal expiring in the summer, the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner has been urged to make a return to his 'spiritual home.'
Such a return could be on the cards despite keen interest from Saudi Arabia's Al Hilal and David Beckham's Inter Miami to secure the services of Argentina's World Cup-winning captain, CBS reports.
Nonetheless, the Polish goal wizard has made it clear where he stands on the speculation raging at La Blaugrana about the potential return of Messi.
“I want to play with Messi here in Barcelona. He has changed his style in recent years. It is easier to play with players who understand football as deeply as he does,” Lewandowski stated as quoted by GOAL.
He added: “Messi’s playing style has evolved in recent years. He thinks differently and positions himself differently on the pitch. He has a unique sense. We would definitely use it. Where will I put it on the pitch? You’ll have to ask Xavi about that.”
Lewandowski's desire to see the empyrean Argentine retrace his roots to Barca showcases the mutual respect shared between the two exceptional players, who were filmed together at the 2023 Laureus Awards.
Lewandowski picks between Ronaldo and Messi
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Robert Lewandowski outrightly refused to pick who was a better player between Messi and Ronaldo. He instead declared himself as the better pick.
Lewandowski issues blunt response to Messi or Ronaldo question
FootballThis comes at a time when there are increased rumours about Messi returning to Barcelona this summer.
He will go down as one of the most unfortunate players never to win the Ballon d'Or in his career. The Polish star has been among the best strikers of his generation, making his name by inspiring Bayern Munich to a couple of titles.
