Nedbank Cup: Celebration video haunts Kaizer Chiefs following Orlando Pirates loss
FootballZwane Says Chiefs’ Players Were Thinking About the Off Season Before Final Game
- Kaizer Chiefs suffered their 12th defeat of the season as they were beaten by Cape Town City
- Amakhosi finished fifth on the DStv Premiership standings and didn't win any trophies this season
- Zwane admitted that players weren't the same after their defeats to Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup
Kaizer Chiefs will be looking to recharge their batteries during the off-season and come back fighting next season.
The Amakhosi went through another year without lifting a trophy and finished fifth in the DStv Premiership.
As noted by Goal, Amakhosi were leapfrogged to the fourth spot by Cape Town City, who beat them on the season's final day.
City played most of the game with 10 men but still did enough to hold onto a 1-0 win.
The loss demoted Chiefs to fifth and marked their 12th loss of the season, their worst loss record in top-flight history.
Speaking after the game, coach Arthur Zwane explained that players’ minds were already on the off-season break before the last two games could be played, Soccer Laduma reported.
Zwane added that after the defeat to Orlando Pirates in the Nedbank Cup semi-final, it would always be difficult for players to bounce back from that.
“The only thing that was left for us was to keep on motivating them and make sure that we keep the structure, but it did not work. Their minds were already on the off-season, thinking about next season, of which we know we could have done better,” Zwane said.
The only bright side for Chiefs is that they qualified for next season's MTN8 tournament and have a chance to fight for some silverware at the start of the new season.
