FootballSpalletti Casts Further Doubts on His Future After Leading Napoli to Serie a Title
- Luciano Spalletti guided Napoli to their first Italian Serie A title in 33 years
- His future is under doubt just weeks after they were confirmed Scudetto winners
- Aurelio De Laurentiis is already lining up a replacement in case he leaves
A beautiful story is about to end sourly as Luciano Spalletti’s future is under doubt despite leading Napoli to Scudetto's victory.
Napoli were confirmed Italian Serie A champions in Udine after Victor Osimhen’s goal salvaged a draw and the title with five games to go in the season.
It was the Partenopei’s first title in 33 years since late Argentine legend Diego Maradona led the team to victory in the 1989/90 season.
According to Il Matino, Spalletti is close to leaving the club at the end of the season due to mental tiredness and a broken relationship with club president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
Spalletti tight-lipped over his future
The press and fans expected a clarification over his future, but he threw more mystery into it by claiming only the club would say what they have decided.
“You have to ask the president. I defined everything at dinner a week ago. The club has to say this, I’m not saying it,” he said, as quoted by GIFN.
As reported by Tribal Football, De Laurentiis made a comment about not clipping anyone’s wings if they want freedom, indirectly referring to Spalletti, who responded in a rather humorous way.
“I don’t know what that means, you have to ask the president. That’s why what I want to do doesn’t take a pair of wings, it takes a pair of boots, I don’t have to fly anywhere,” he added.
According to Football Italia, Jurgen Klopp is De Laurentiis’s dream to replace the 64-year-old, while Rafa Benitez, Gian Piero Gasperini, Antonio Conte and Roberto De Zerbi are also admitted.

FootballSpalletti threatened to leave stadium
Sports Brief reported that Spalletti threatened to leave the stadium if the fans’ protests which rocked their 4-0 loss against AC Milan, persisted.
Fans protested against a hike in ticket fees and increased security measures, which Spalletti claimed affected the team. He told the fans he would leave and go home if it happened again.
