Legendary Italian goalkeeper, Gianluigi Buffon, has named Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world right now.

The Inter Milan number one has been influential in leading the Nerazurris to the final of the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League season.

Onana has kept eight clean sheets in Europe's elite competition, the most by a goalkeeper this season.

And according to Buffon, the former Ajax goalie is among the top five goalies in the world, praising him for claiming the starting role over Samir Handanovic.

“Maignan proved clearly last season what he was capable of, so it is not remotely surprising this term to see him make such remarkable saves with Milan," he told La Gazzetta dello Sport, as quoted by Football Italia.
“As for Onana, he made it obvious from the start that his shoulders are broad enough to handle the Inter jersey. Fighting for position with Samir Handanovic is also a tough slog. I think right now both Maignan and Onana are among the five best goalkeepers in the world.”

Buffon is also on the verge of making history as he leads Parma in the Serie A promotion play-offs, as reported by Sportal.eu.

Onana sets new UCL record

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana has set a new record as Inter Milan goalkeeper in the UEFA Champions League.

The former Ajax shot-stopper became the first Inter goalkeeper to keep seven (the most) clean sheets in a single season in the elite European competition.

Onana has also made the most saves in the competition, and the Nerazurris are on course to reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2010.

Cameroonian goalkeeper, Andre Onana reunited with his family at the San Siro Stadium after leading Inter Milan to the final of the UEFA Champions League.

The Nerazurri beat city rivals, AC Milan to reach the final of Europe's elite competition for the first time in 13 years.

Onana has been instrumental in Inter's journey in this season's Champions League, keeping eight clean sheets and not conceding in four knockout games.
