  • An Arsenal fan decided to take the ultimate risk for his team at the expense of his own family
  • After the Gunners’ loss to Brighton, a tweet resurfaced of a Gunners fan explaining his decision
  • At the time, Mikel Arteta’s side were eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table

A tweet from an Arsenal fan on February 1 this year has resurfaced after the Gunners’ latest defeat against Brighton and Hove Albion.

If the tweet is anything to go by, the Arsenal fan turned down a family trip of a lifetime so he could watch his favourite club lift the Premier League.

In January, Mikel Arteta and his players were in dreamland, enjoying an eight-point lead at the top of the table.

Astonishingly, the Gunners have been top of the table for 245 days of the league campaign, but have suffered a dramatic collapse in recent weeks.

Their lead at the top in January was so massive, that a confident fan decided to take his chances by cancelling a family trip.

As reported on The Sun, a fan with the handle @Fkhanage narrated how he left his wife red-faced after cancelling the trip, which happened to fall around the time Arsenal face Wolves in their final league game of the season.

“About a year ago, my wife & I booked a family holiday to Mauritius, leaving 26 May. I recently found out our final home game is Wolves on 28 May. I had to cancel our holiday. MY WIFE IS RAGING. Too scared to go home. We better win the league. Pray for me,” his tweet read.

City could wrap up EPL

As it stands, the cancellation of the trip by the Arsenal fan will not prove worth it, as Manchester City are four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand.

Even if Arsenal win their remaining two games, City will still have their title hopes in their own hands, with fairly easy fixtures against Chelsea, Brighton and Brentford remaining.

In a more extreme case, The Citizens could be crowned champions as soon as this weekend without kicking a ball if Arsenal somehow lose to Nottingham Forest.

Fan: Arsenal should be champions

Sports Brief also reported on an interesting take from an Arsenal fan, who suggested there should be a merit for being at the EPL summit for a large part of the season.

The Gunners have been so dominant for so long in the Premier League this season that no other club has been at the top of the table longer than them this campaign.
