Football5 Possible Reasons Bayern Munich Want to Sell Sadio Mane After Just One Season
- Sadio Mane is rumoured to be heading for a Bayern Munich exit after just one season
- The Senegal international has scored 12 times for the Bavarians in his debut season
- Several factors could have played a role in Bayern’s willingness to part ways with him
Sadio Mane’s Bayern Munich stint is set to come to an unfortunate end after just one season, according to stunning new reports.
Bayern are reportedly open to selling the 30-year old former Liverpool man in the summer, despite offering him a three-year deal back in August 2022.
31-year-old Mane has struggled for game time since making a famous £28 million move from Anfield, and despite the arrival of Thomas Tuchel, his future at the Allianz Arena still looks bleak.
A Premier League return is on the cards for Mane, and Sports Brief takes a look at some of the reasons Bayern are willing to let go of the superstar so early.
1. Mane's underwhelming numbers
When Bayern Munich brought in Mane in the summer, there was a general feeling the talented forward was brought in to replace Robert Lewandowski.
To fill in Lewa's shoes was always going to be a huge ask, especially because the Polish international averaged 0.94 goals per league game, as per Transfermkt.
Bayern took up Mane’s services with the Senegalese’s impressive stats for Liverpool in mind - managing 90 goals and 36 assists during six years at Anfield.
Some feel that was his peak and he has been unable to replicate the same form in his debut season, managing just 12 goals and six assists in all competitions.
2. Mane's Leroy Sane fight
In April, Mane was involved in an altercation with teammate, Leroy Sane, and multiple reports claimed Mane threw a punch in the aftermath of the 3-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League.
Eden Hazard confirms his plan for next season amid Real Madrid exit
FootballAlthough the pair seems to have buried the hatchet, things have not been the same in the Bayern dressing room since, and rumours of his impending exit from the Allianz Arena have been circulating.
3. Mane's age factor
The fact that Mane is a 31-year old forward, who is seemingly past his prime, could be a factor in the Bundesliga giants’ willingness to allow him to leave after just one season.
With age comes proneness to injury and the Senegal star is no exception, managing to feature just 11 times in the league since his return from a lengthy layoff in February. In that time, he has scored just once.
Despite initially signing a three-year deal that would have seen him stay with Bayern until 2025, it may not come as a surprise the Bavarians are willing to sell him before his deal runs down.
4. Nagelsmann's sacking and Tuchel's arrival
How City could line up vs Real Madrid as Guardiola appears to confirm starters
FootballThis is an interesting factor that needs to be dissected for perspective.
In March 2023, The Mirror reported that Mane had a bitter clash with former manager, Julian Nagelsmann as he was discontent with only being given 13 minutes of game time against Paris Saint-Germain in the last 16 of the Champions League.
Days later and Nagelsmann would be sacked to be replaced by Thomas Tuchel, who has also not been playing the former Liverpool man as often - an indication that Mane might not have a future at the Allianz Arena.
5. Bayern exploring other attacking options
One of the more obvious reasons why Bayern might have Mane on the club’s chopping board is the need for a mass clear out to make room for newer, younger signings.
Herbert Hainer, a member of the club's board, confirmed the Bavarians would move in for a number 9 in the summer recently, saying:
Man Utd face nervy end to season as problems mount
Football"It was obvious we didn't have a #9 who would change things up front. You can assume that we'll strengthen our squad to be able to compete in the league and Champions League."
Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez, and Frankfurt’s Kolo Muani have all been linked with the German giants.
Nagelsmann’s agent aims dig at Chelsea
Sports Brief also reported on Nagelsmann’s agent, Volker Struth’s dig at Chelsea after the former Bayern boss turned down the chance to manage the Blues.
“I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call, there were some phone conversations. It was the right decision not to go there. It’s a club in troubled waters at the moment,” he told BILD’s podcast.
Former Tottenham Hotspur manager, Mauricio Pochettino has reportedly won the race to be the next Chelsea manager after all terms were agreed upon.
