FootballNagelsmann’s Agent Aims Dig at Chelsea After Failed Talks Over Managerial Appointment
- Chelsea are eating humble pie after letting go of Graham Potter at the beginning of last month
- The club was quick to sack Thomas Tuchel but have since gone through many managers since
- Ex-Bayern Munich coach Julian Nagelsmann was one of those shortlisted to move to the Blues
There appears to be hurt feelings in the camp of Julian Nagelsmann towards Chelsea after things failed to materialise over the vacant managerial position at the club.
After just seven months in charge, Graham Potter was relieved of his duties, but Boehly and co appeared to have learned from their previous mistake of hurriedly appointing a manager, instead undertaking an extensive search.
Many managers were considered but only three were reportedly spoken to: ex-Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann, former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique, and former Paris Saint-Germain boss Mauricio Pochettino.
According to The Telegraph, Pochettino has won the race to be the next Chelsea manager after all terms were agreed upon.
Confirmation of his takeover should be announced in the coming days.
Nagelsmann’s agent slams Chelsea
There were many complications surrounding Nagelsmann. First, he is still under contract with Bayern until the end of his deal in 2026 - this was agreed upon when he was sacked.
The Blues hierarchy were also reportedly concerned about his age - 35 - and the reasons for his dismissal from the Bavarian club which could hint at what was expected from him.
However, Nagelsmann's agent, Volker Struth, appeared to have confirmed reports that he had rejected the London outfit's advances and not the other way around.
“I can confirm that Chelsea were quick to call, there were some phone conversations. It was the right decision not to go there. It’s a club in troubled waters at the moment,” he told BILD’s podcast, Phrasenmaher.
Struth further expatiated the situation at Chelsea had compelled his client to decide against taking the job.

According to 90min, Tottenham Hotspur were interested in Nagelsmann but have also quelled their interest in him.
Priorities for new Chelsea boss
Despite splashing over £600 million on transfers in two windows, part of the reason Nagelsmann rejected the offer to take over at Stamford Bridge, the team is still not finished.
Sports Brief has analysed four key areas the new Chelsea boss must address in his first window if the Blues are to compete again - the most pressing being their number 9 role.
