- Barcelona clinched the league title on Sunday night at Espanyol
- Ayew played and won many trophies under Xavi during his stint at Al Sadd
Ghana captain Andre Ayew has congratulated his former manager Xavi Hernandez for guiding Barcelona to win the La Liga title.
The Catalan giants won the league title for the first time since 2019, thrashing arch-rivals Espanyol 4-2 on Sunday.
The result saw Barcelona open a 14-point gap on second-placed Real Madrid, which made it mathematically impossible for Los Blancos to overtake them with four matches left.
Ayew, who previously worked with Xavi during his stint at Al Sadd in Qatar, extended his congratulations to the former Spain midfielder.
In a post on his Instagram Story, Ayew wrote: “Congratulations boss Xavi. Once a champion, always a champion. You deserve this.”
For Barcelona manager Xavi, he marked his first full season in charge with an emphatic title win, the second trophy to arrive at the Camp Nou this term.
In January, the Blaugrana beat Champions League semi-finalists Real Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup.
The Catalan giants will now aim to do well with Barcelona in Europe next season following their disappointing group-stage exit from the UEFA Champions League this term.
Barcelona won eight league titles in 11 seasons through 2019. They finished second to Madrid in 2020, then third – behind Madrid and champions Atletico – in 2021. They were second to Madrid last season.
Fans greet Barca squad
Meanwhile, Barcelona are still jubilant after clinching their first La Liga title since 2019 as thousands of supporters trooped out to celebrate the team during their open bus parade.
Barcelona stars, including Frank Kessie, Robert Lewandowski and Raphinha, who all joined the Catalans last summer, were all part of the celebrations with the fans.

Robert Lewandowski struck twice for Barcelona in their win, along with goals for Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde, Sports Brief also reported.
La Blaugrana broke the deadlock after 11 minutes with a well-worked goal, finished off by the Polish striker for his 20th of the season in La Liga.
Ronald Araujo played an inch-perfect long pass for Balde, who blazed past Espanyol's Oscar Gil and crossed for Lewa to score at close range.
