  • Arsenal stand little to no chance of winning the Premier League title this season
  • This is despite their dominance that saw them top the standings for the better part of the campaign
  • The Gunners are currently trailing league leaders Manchester City by four points after their defeat to Brighton

Arsenal's slim hopes of ending their long wait for a Premier League title were dented on Sunday evening after they were demolished 3-0 by Brighton at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners have been dominant for the better part of the season and looked on course to secure the domestic crown at the end of the season.

At one point, the north Londoners enjoyed an eight-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City as the title race gathered steam.

And with no other engagement away from the Premier League, many contended the title was Arsenal's to lose.

Man City in the driving seat

However, a string of poor performances in the closing stages of the campaign has seen the Emirates dwellers falter, leaving City in the driving.

ESPN reports that Arsenal are now trailing City by four points following their 3-0 defeat against Brighton on Sunday.

Goals from Julio Enciso, Deniz Undav and Pervis Estupinan sealed a momentous win for the Seagulls, putting City on the brink of retaining the title.

With little hope of catching up with the Citizens, Sports Brief takes a look at four players who inadvertently cost the club the Premier League title during the Brighton clash:

1. Jakub Kiwior

The Polish star, who joined Arsenal during the January transfer window, was part of the team that lost to Brighton on Sunday.

Kiwior was at fault for the visitors' opening goal, scored by Julio Enciso

The Mirror reports that went down following a collision with Evan Ferguson, leaving the Gunners woefully short at the back.

2. Gabriel Martinelli

The Brazilian star has been incredible for Arsenal this season.

With 15 goals to his name, Martinelli has been one of Arsenal's standout players this term.

However, the forward was less impactful against Brighton up until his substitution in the 20th minute after he picked up an injury.

3. Bukayo Saka

Like Martinelli, Saka has equally been outstanding for the better part of the campaign.

However, the youngster has been somewhat silent in the closing stages of the season, with his lack of incisiveness upfront denying Arsenal the much-needed goals.

4. Jorginho

The Italian midfielder has played a less prominent role since his shocking move to the Emirates Stadium.

His lack of game time was largely down to Thomas Partey's perfect form.

However, the ex-Chelsea star was handed some minutes under his belt against Brighton.

Unfortunately, he was unable to make an impact and had to be subbed off at the hour mark.

Arteta takes blame for slip up

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has appeared to blame himself after the Gunners seemingly surrendered the Premier League title to Manchester City on Sunday.

The north Londoners looked on course to secure this season's EPL crown after an incredible run of form and results under Arteta.

The Emirates dwellers had been topping the standings for the better part of the campaign and had an eight-point advantage over City at some point.

However, Arsenal's disastrous form in the closing stages of the season have seen the title slip off their hands, leaving the Citizens in the driving seat in the title race.
