  • Juventus beat Cremonese 2-0 to move within touching distance of a top-four finish
  • The Old Lady lost midfielder Paul Pogba to a season-ending injury after just 24 minutes
  • It was his first start since he returned to Italy after six years with Manchester United

Paul Pogba’s season is over just 24 minutes into his first start for Juventus since he returned to the Allianz Stadium as a free agent about a year ago.

The French midfielder spent six years at Manchester United, ran down his contract, refused an extension, and returned to the club where he honed his midfield skills.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men won the game against the Cremona-based club 2-0, thanks to goals from Nicolo Fagioli and Gleison Bremer.

Pogba inconsolable after injury

According to Sun UK, 30-year-old Pogba in tears as he went down and had to be substituted. He covered his face with his shirt, clearly aware of the extent of the damage done to his body.

According to Football Italia, an initial assessment from the medical team suggests it is a quadriceps issue in his left thigh. This is a muscular issue instead of affecting the knee that underwent surgery, but it still means his season is over.

Allegri expressed disappointment on behalf of the 2018 World Cup winner, highlighting Pogba's sacrifices to be fully fit to help the team and his dismay at having to go off in such a manner.

Goal-scorer, Fagioli halted his celebration due to the fact that he grew up in the Cremonese academy, and also because of the French star's injury, who he claimed he idolised from his childhood.

The UEFA Europa League semi-final against Sevilla in Spain awaits Juve next. The first leg ended in a 1-1 draw in Turin.

Pogba produces first big moment

Sports Brief previously reported that Pogba produced his first big moment in the game against Sevilla since his return to Turin last summer.

He provided an assist for Federico Gatti to earn the Old Lady an equaliser in the game's closing stages and set up a cracker for the second leg.
