  • Partey hopes to return to the starting XI for the Brighton match

Ghana midfielder, Thomas Partey has finally reacted after being dropped to the bench in Arsenal's recent games in the English Premier League.

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta has picked Jorginho over the Ghanaian international in the last two matches against Chelsea and Newcastle United, both of which the Gunners won convincingly.

Prior to those games, Partey struggled as Arsenal drew three matches in a row, including a 3-3 draw at home against bottom-placed Southampton.

"For me, it is something that always happened. I have always had competition, which is good for me. I enjoy it. I am really happy for [Jorginho], because for a couple of weeks he was the best at training, and then at the end you see that in the game," he told Standard Sports, as quoted by Footballghana.

Partey explained competition helped the club grow and pushed players to give of their best in every game.

"I am really happy for him and also happy that every player is ready to step in, so nobody is able to sleep. I think it is good and I hope everyone in that position will be ready to step in when they have the chance."

The Gunners welcome Brighton to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, as they keep the pressure on league leaders, Manchester City with four games remaining until the end of the campaign.

Despite the disappointment of relinquishing the top spot in the Premier League to the Citizens, Arsenal have officially qualified for the Champions League next season, SI has reported.

Neville praises Arteta over Partey

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville has praised Mikel Arteta for dropping Partey from the starting line-up.

The Ghanaian had struggled in the Gunners' previous three games before being kept back on the bench for the Chelsea and Newcastle United matches.

Arteta preferred Jorginho over Partey in his last two matches and that seemed to work for Arsenal, with victories over the Blues and the Magpies.
