Former Liverpool defender, Jamie Carragher, has compared Super Eagles striker, Taiwo Awoniyi, to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba, following his brace for Nottingham Forest against Southampton in a Premier League battle.

Awoniyi has taken Forest out of the relegation zone after their win over Southampton, but the Nigerian and his teammates will have to double their efforts in their remaining games.

Steve Cooper and his wards are now occupying the 16th position on the Premier League table.

According to reports on Complete Sports, and Punch, Carragher who is now working as a pundit explained that Awoniyi actually reminded him of former Ivorian striker Didier Drogba.

During his active playing days in the Premier League, Drogba was one of the best strikers in the world.

Carragher likens Awoniyi to Drogba

''Awoniyi reminded me of Drogba as soon as I saw the goal. Absolutely brilliant. I’ve been in that position as a defender.
“The turn and bang. Brilliant.”

Meanwhile, Awoniyi has scored six goals and recorded one assist in 25 league appearances for Nottingham Forest this season.

The former Liverpool player has also made the Premier League team of the week.

Awoniyi discloses his mum’s prediction

Earlier, Sports Brief had reported how Taiwo Awoniyi stated emphatically that his target is to ensure his club, Nottingham Forest remains in the Premier League after the end of the season, with only three games to go.

This term has been so challenging for Awoniyi and his teammates in the Premier League, with their status in the English top flight to be decided by the results from their remaining matches.

The Nigerian striker was the star on Monday night, May 8, netting a brace for Forest in their hard-fought 4-3 win against visiting Southampton, which has taken them out of the bottom four.
